Cochabamba, Bolivia

Fairview residents Dr. James Alexander, Joy Moss, Steve and Ruth Hopkins were part of a two-week medical construction mission team from the WNC Conference of the Methodist Church that went to Cochabamba, Bolivia. The group worked at six small churches — Dr. Alexander at each medical clinic; Joy Moss at the eye clinics and clown ministry; and Steve and Ruth Hopkins at general labor tearing down old and building new bathrooms at a small neighborhood church and daycare center. Of course, that travel-hungry Town Crier stowed away in a suitcase made an appearance during a break from the work.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico

The once sleepy village of Playa del Carmen has more than doubled in population in the last few years, mainly due to Europeans who discovered the alabaster-white beaches, gentle surf, coral reefs and slow lifestyle —equal to the more expensive island of Cozumel just across the straits.
There’s a relaxed Mexican-Caribbean feeling and a sprinkling of American free-spirits at Playa. It's a place to enjoy marvelous beaches by day and a lively nightlife in the evening. The mix of backpackers, archeological buffs and New Age sun worshippers makes Playa very interesting and worth some time... time to read the Town Crier!

El Olingo, Honduras

Dr. Robert Busey and assistant Crystal brought some heavy reading to keep their patient occupied during a routine dental procedure in Honduras. Actually, nothing was routine about this trip. A group of about 90 physicians, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists and construction workers sponsored by the BMDMI (Baptist Medical Dental Missions International) spent most of the week in the small village of El Olingo in central Honduras. The trip was planned to reach people in underserved rural villages. The dental team consisted of four local dentists, including Fairview’s Dr. Busey, Dr. Tim Gillespie, Dr. Matt Stacey and Dr. Keith Black and Honduran dentist, Dr. “Emma.” Conditions were quite primitive and the work entailed extractions — 800 teeth pulled in 3 days.
